As software development matures programming jobs will continue to be exported to places offering the cheapest labor, but designer jobs will increase in both pay and prestige. Again, this is a natural evolution and has occurred in several other industries.
The textile industry went through the same evolution that software is experiencing. Years ago, individuals made their own clothes just as years ago anyone wanting to use a computer had to write their own code. Then along came tailors and seamstresses. These individuals sewed clothes together; but they were expensive and only the wealthiest individuals could afford them. The same was true for the first custom software projects; only the largest organizations could afford to develop custom software applications. Specialization in the textile industry continued until there were designers and textile workers. As the industry progressed, the reputation of the designer increased and seamstresses became button sewers. Eventually, the button sewer job was exported to places where labor was least expensive and the designer became a very highly paid prestigious profession.
